First its a $68 dollar lens yes 68$. Its a Neewer(the parent company is Meike so it is also sold under Meike or Beautiful Technology in Chinese). Its a 35 f1.7 MF APS-C (52mm in FX speak) lens and first impressions are this is the next Rokinon/Samyang it is a super well built lens. Oh I forgot this is a AP-S/C lens only that comes in Sony E mount, Canon EOS something mount for the small Canon Mirrorless camera, Fuji and they also make it in a MFT mount and they do list Nikon I am assuming it will work on Nikon DX cameras but with the D7500 doing away with the index tab not sure these will be popular plus you can buy all kinds of excellent old school Nikons, then again it might be for the Nikon 1 system but the website doesn't say.

Meike and Neewer also make a 6.5 and a 8mm fisheye that gets good reviews, they make a 12mm f2.8, 28 f2.8 pancake and a 50 f2 along with the 35 f1.7 I got. Oh and they make a 25mm f0.95 but that one cost a lot more I've seen it from 300 to 600.

Ok lets start with the lens its all metal including the lens cap yes the lens cap. It looks like an old school non AI Nikkor or Pentax from years ago. The focus ring is smooth with just a few spots it is not as smooth but hey its $68 dollars(The average price seems to be 80 got one on sale). Now aperture ring is declicked and goes the opposite way so I found myself setting before I shot since I had to look down to see what aperture setting I was on I guess over time I will learn approximately where I am when setting the aperture.  I can not say how well built this lens is it is better than almost all my modern primes it really does feel like an old school Nikon I would say it is close to the build of my 50 f2 Ai Nikkor except it has the metal focusing ring that is old school chunky vs a rubberized one.

At first I was frustrated I was having trouble MF inside with my Fuji XM1. Then I realized not having a viewfinder and using the LCD might be the issue or was it just the low light well it was both. After an hour I started to get better but still not what I wanted. At this point my thoughts of adding a few more of these to fill out my Fuji bag on the cheap started to dim. So I said to my grandson lets go outside even though its 102 yes 102 and that is not the heat index. Well in good light my spirits swelled and I found focusing a lot easier. But I can see I will be looking for a used XE2 or XE2s with the viewfinder! :P  Now it was extremely hazy and so these are not the best but over all the lens looked good. Above average sharpness, nice color, their is a bit of CA but LR did a good job on it. Bokeh at f1.7 to f4 is nice I liked it a lot I can see this as a compact portrait lens since its 52mm in FX FoV.

Well after I saw the pictures I took of my Grandson did I say he's with me for a week what a great week! I am now onboard adding the 50 f2 and maybe the 12 f2.8. I even got one inside using the small onboard flash in the bounce mode and MF the lens Whoo Whoo!

OK the outside shots of LiL Chris are at f1.7 to f2.8(no data so trying to remember yup need my old film notebook :P  ). The Outsides shots of the buildings are at f8 or close to it and the inside shot of LiL Chris is at f4. I used auto ISO and on the outside shots it was 200 on the inside shot it was at 400.

Jim

Oh and I got a really nice leather half case for my Fuji love half cases! :D

Nice images, Jim.

Neewar seems to be expanding its line of photography products.  Or is it just that I'm noticing them more?  They have lots of stuff on Amazon.  I always hesitate to buy from a manufacturer who I don't know, but BP has used their speed-lights and you are using one of their lenses.  Looking forward to some testimonials/product reports.  :)

So far I have been impressed I also have a Neewer flash the NW320 it is an excellent flash and priced nice. It is fully compatible with my fuji system supports off camera slave use and even has a mini USB port for firmware updates. Plus Meike and Neewer are the same company so far their quality is excellent.
