It got here yesterday. Looks pretty good. Only thing is the zoom is a bit stiff in the 24-28 range but no big deal. The D7100 does not like this lens-the autofocus and TTL flash exposure is way off. But that's OK I'll be using it on my film bodies-the 18-135 is a much better choice for digital anyway.  Tomorrow I may try it on the D300 and see if it performs well with infrared photography because a zoom would be nice for IR and give me more flexibility than the 28 I have been using for IR. I'll post pics I take tomorrow-that is if it doesn't rain all day.

This lens is not good for IR photography. There's a spot in the center that's a little hot and low contrast. It's not bad, but just enough to affect images. The 18-135DX lens is better so that's probably use that one.

I took a few test shots with the D7100 at the 13MP setting(that's where I keep it). This shot was at wide open at 50mm. No post processing was done. At these settings, I'm happy with colors and contrast. Stopped down it's even a little better. The 100% crop reveals sharpness is lacking. But I'm sure DX at 13MP is much higher resolution than film. I'm sure it will be fine on a film body.

The first time I used this lens was with color slide film and the F2AS. Today I loaded the N6000 with Ilford HP5 B&W and mounted the 24-50. I want to go on an outing with it but it's been so hot lately-hitting 97 and 98 deg F.

I have one of the old 25-50mm F4 lenses (only used on D700 and D800E). It's a pretty special lens.. I'm sure the AF 24-50mm is just an improvement on the old MF version.

Hi Arlon. From my test shots of the 24-50 on my D7100 and what I've read about the 25-50, seems like the old 25-50 should be better. But it cost much more that's why l got the 24-50.

I know the build quality of the 25-50mm is really nice. It is so nice, it has "couch appeal". (-:}

 It's one of those lenses you just have to pick up and use from time to time even if the image quality isn't perfect. The 16-35mm and 28-300mm in those ranges both make sharper images but neither of them are as much fun to use.

Congratulations!

Nice looking lens.  It looks like it is in excellent condition.  I didn't notice the spot you were referring to, the IR images look good to me.

Very nice, Bill!
