For me I have been a fan of Energizer Lithiums and I recently used the Duracell ION Core batteries that were maybe a tad better as far as long life.

That said I read Art uses rechargabe batteries so what is everyone using and what are they using them in?

For me its my SB600 and F100.

Energiser Lithiums for my Speedlights.

I don't used them every day so I'm not buying bucket loads of them but I have found these to be excellent.

I use Camelion rechargeables in my flashes Jim ... they are brilliant (the batteries :P ) ... hold a charge for ages ... flashes always ready to go... although if an important use in scheduled I charge them up for the occasion.. and carry a spare set just in case.. http://www.camelionbattery.com/ .. almost as good as the lithium/ion battery in our cameras. :)

For my SB-800 I use rechargeable Vapex batteries 2700mAh.

Have had them for a few years now and have also used them for my D300 battery grip (very heavy)...

Only Nikon in my DSLRs

Imedion AA rechargeable in my SB-800s.  That's 5 units with 5 AAs each.

Energizer Lithium in most other portable devices that use AA size.  I use Lithiums because of their longer life and because their weight is less than rechargeable or alkaline batteries. The weight difference of the MD-12 on my FM3a is very noticeable as it uses 8 AAs.

Duracell alkaline in everything else

What seems like a 1000 years ago, when using a couple of Metz 60's, we started out with lead acid battery packs, then came along the "high tech" sealed jell batteries for the packs, finally replaced by the new Metz which took rechargeable batteries inside the base of the flash gun

How things have changed

My Metz have long gone, now use Eneloops which are used by all professionals in my state, that says something about the product

I have used Varta lithium for my battery grip which work a treat,

The lithium do weigh a whole lot less when loaded with 8 batteries so that may be a consideration if you are weight conscious

Pretty much do not bother with lithium now and just use Eneloops for both my SB700 and MB-D12

They hold charge exceptionally well

Im not shooting weddings so only have one set for back-up but never had to use them yet

Got up to 70 flash shots without having to change the batteries on a couple of occasions,

In reality you could most probably get 500+ shots if they were not full power

FWIW

Using a MAHA Powerex MH-C801D which charges both AA and AAA

Is able to recondition batteries as well

Does fast and slow charge

Works a treat

Sorry to be the cause of a lighter wallet, Jim.  Hey, I picked up two kits in the end.

I think you will be extremely pleased with these.  I have packed them into my Meike grip and used them as back up, work like a charm!  Work great in my SB-910 as well.

Let us know who they work out for you!

Good on you Jim You won't regret it, I have Eneloops and Powerex charger, Enabled me to play around late in the afternoon using SB 800 and not bother about battery use I was chasing bees on a rosemary bush, no keepers but batteries all charged up again, only took about 20 mins Next mission is to get some AAA as well The Powerex charger also has the option to Fast Charge, Soft Charge or Recondition Also keeps the MB-D12 well fed

It has been my experience with AA rechargeable that they do no perform as well as AAA. I have used Engergizer, Duracell and Eneloop in the AA size--none performed well.  They seem not to hold a charge very long and become non chargeable way too early in their life cycle.  Has anyone else noticed this ?

Charles, I have found these to be exceptional. I would say equal to regular batteries. Since Jim has the same kit, interested in seeing what his experience will be.

Hi Charles I must say, I'm could not be classed as a long time user of Eneloops yet but so far all good After exhaustive research, Eneloops came out on top The research indicated that a good charger was paramount, Regular fast charging reduced life, The Powerex has a "soft" charge as well A charger with a conditioning charge was also a benefit, there would be others but I chose the Powerex 801D that does all of the above There is a model that does C and D cells as well but the charging options are the same
