Some more of the race.  I cannot get enough of motorcycle races.  I just love this event.  I may start traveling to other Cities to do this, just to see more races.

Enjoy.  All taken with the Nikon D5 and Nikkor 200-400 VRII. Many of these images are hand held!  My arms were ready to fall off at the end of the weekend.

Enjoy, again, feel free to critique any image of the race that I have posted and feel free to ask any questions.

I welcome the critique.

This, is my favorite image, probably of the entire weekend.

They are great. I can not choose. You should make a poster of a few of these. and give it to the track. I'm sure they would appreciate and hang it where all can see.

Thanks, Dennis.

You guys are too easy on me!

Dennis, it is an excellent suggestion ... But ....  <_<

the Media Centre is very nicely decorated with huge B&W images from races and racers of the past.  And, they have an official track photographer.  That would be an awesome gig to have!!

There is a real circuit and sub-culture around racing I never really realized.  There are some very serious fans of racing!  Not sure I quite understand it, but I have gotten a little addicted myself.

RV is KING if you are a serious fan.  They are everywhere to be found across the park.  Some small, some very, very serious Motorhomes!  And, these guys know the ropes.  Wood, decks, fencing, chairs, canopies, it is jaw dropping impressive.  These guys must go to a ton of races.

What is supposed to be an eye opener is the Truck Racing crowd.  I will not be attending that race coming up in two weeks, although I am tempted.

You guys should try it.

I'm sort of getting somewhat thinking about shooting cars. Never did it. Now that I got a little sports car, got it for a steal. I have been looking around to see if we have motocross. I know there are a lot of bike tracks, dirt. the only race track we have around closed it doors to the circuit. Something to look into. I want to be able to go shoot some of the high school football, as that is now starting up. Might be sending you a note about that.

Thanks, Dennis.

Thanks, Jim.

This is the furthest part of the track from the Media Centre where the track goes steeply up into the turn, straightens just a bit, then turns again into a long straightaway!

If you pick the right spot, you can get some really dramatic shots with that sign in the background.

This track has lots of good photo op locations, it’s just a killer to get around from place to place due to elevation, distance and heat!

I'm amazed that the bike doesn't slide out from under them when they lean over like that.  Physics at work?  :)

Thanks, Jerome and Peter.

Mark,

The bikes did slide out from 3, that I saw.  It was pretty brutal when it did. They have round tires and I am sure they are special rubber so they stick pretty good. On the hole, saw very little wobble if any, these tires hold the road.

Peter, the D5 was used almost exclusively.  Why?

1) wanted to really test it

2) 12 fps... holy!!

The D850 would hold its own at 9 fps, I would have just upped the ISO and shutter speed, I am sure it would have sufficed.  I am getting pretty good at this, I would have locked the focus on earlier and just husbanded pulling the trigger until they where closer.
