Now I know the debate filter or no filter but I was thinking darn this is a fixed lens scratch it and the whole camera goes back and I bet it is lots of money to fix. So I bought a top of the line 49mm UV Protector filter at 49mm it was not to expensive so I think it might be a good investment and from my test today no loss of IQ and no flare. I bought the Fuji version it is Multi coated with their super EBC and it is silver so it matches the camera yea!
Next wanted to see how the Fuji does in bright light in the JPEG only mode so I set the camera up with plus 1 sharpening, lowest NR setting(-2), Auto ISO, Auto Dynamic range and on most the Provia color setting and one in the BW setting and one in the Velvia setting(wow it is Velvia all the way). Well this cameras JPEGs rock I mean rock. I did no PP all I did was resize did I say they rock I would feel super confident to just take the SD card to Walgreens(they are cheap and close and the lab tech at my Walgreens is pretty good and their lab is Fuji for better stuff our Costco Rocks but they are pretty far away Walgreens I can walk to) and say print these please!
Seems rocks is my word of the day. Ok here are some shots not super interesting stuff just around my home but I was walking enjoying the sunny day.
One more note on the Fuji ateast the X100s it uses a small battery and if you have two bars left you are very close to going dead so carry an extra battery Nikon spoiled me for all the Nikon issues lately battery life is not one of them you may not know it until you use a mirrorless camera with a small battery and I use the optical viewfinder on my X100s. Yes Nikons battery life Rocks!
Start with a bang this is the Velvia mode straight out of the camera! ISO 200(BASE) f8, 1/160, Velvia Preset see other settings above.

Next one I switched out the UV and used my 52mm CPL with a step down or is it step up 49mm to 52mm ring(great investment hard to find had to get it on eBay from China but I have a ton of great 52mm filters this saved me a ton of money on filters yes I love using old school filters) and no lens hood though it won't fit with the adapter ring again is it step up or step down brain cramp. Provia was the color preset, ISO 200, f8, 1/420.

I have to tell you shooting this way today truly felt like I was shooting Fujichrome film with a film camera dialing in Exp Comp, using real filters and shooting a prime lens and using the foot zoom to change my look. To bad the Fuji battery died on me blah never leave home without your back up fuji battery. From what I understand the newest version the X100F uses a larger battery.
Please comment since you came this far let me know what you think.
