To my fellow PNer Apple folks,

Apple will be announcing the new operating system OSX Yosemite on Thursday and are you going to upgrade? With all the new interface actions between iOS 8 and your desktop or MacBook or MacBook Pro, I think that it is NeatoPeachiekeen  to install it.

Before starting here is a good read....

All OK,

Few updates for some apps

Loaded a lot quicker than Mavericks

FWIW, there was even an update for Aperture

Because my iPhone is a 3Gs and won't except iOS8, can't make calls from my iMac or iPad

I might just walk around the street with my iPad up to my ear and pretend!  :)

Robin, you don't what slow is until you've downloaded the latest Windows update!  Then it left me with more than 100,000 junk files.  Computer was dead slow until I ran AVG's clean up utility.  I really hate Windows!

Scroll a page in Safari with images/graphics on it and as they reach the tool bar at the top they keep going behind it with just a hint of their shape and colour - its the attention to detail that makes a Mac such a nice thing to use.

OK, here's a question for more experienced Mac users.

Windows infuriates me with the frequency of their updates/downloads.  To rub salt in the wounds, my laptop gets slower after every upgrade.  I finally had to run a utility program after Wednesday's upgrade, getting rid of over 100,000 junk files.      At least I recovered a lot of speed.

Since starting my new job, I've noticed that Apple seems to be putting out upgrades almost as often as Windows.  iOS 8.xx and OSX?  Is this just because Apple has released their new toys; or is this always happening?

New Apple guy since last Aug and with the desktops...I have upgraded OS X twice before Yosemite came but all upgrades are simple to me to start using the new systems. For my iPhone, seems like upgrades come frequently and all were oaky until this 8.01 screwup for some users. Hope that Apple QA is not skipping a beat.

Love that all my systems are talking to each other and love the different ring tones on each when the phone rings. :D

You get one big OS change each year - this year the Mac's get OS X Yosemite and the iDevices get iOS 8.

There are minor tweaks from time to time to fix issues or compatibilities but these are so smooth on the Mac you'd be hard pushed to tell it has done anything.

On iDevices you can update OTT (over the air on the device itself) or via iTunes.

One little quirk - if you find the iSight camera on your Mac isn't recognised (try running Photo Booth or Face Time) then you need to reset the SMC: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964

Its the main system controller and can get a bit un-nerved having had a big software update. Basically you turn the computer off and unplug it - each is slightly different but it has just sorted mine.

iOS 8.1 downloading now - lets see how many features I can get when (if) it links to my Mac. Hoping for as many of the Continuity features as possible but it will depend on how old my BT card it -

Well the iMac has locked onto the iPhone and can now make/receive calls and texts - Handoff and AirDrop won't work between them as the Mac needs a BT card with LE (Low Energy) support and that only came in 2012 which is a shame.

Yep, here as well on iMac (mid 2010) that is an old machine but my MacBook Pro is ready and functioning great. I may get a newer iMac (21012) later next year...not the 5Ker. :P  :P

iMac 21inchers are going for a good price but the screen is to small for the PJMAN.

Yo Charles, Gary and others, how are yo Apple Mochines and phones doing?
