I was going to use my favourite bank robbery joke again, but it is well past it's best-before date. 

 

10 years ago, I picked up a D series Nifty Fifty/1.8 for about $150 CDN.  I seriously doubt that the differences in focal length or speed are enough to justify a price difference of several thousand dollars.  <_<
