Posted by fotofill on 08 February 2020 - 09:56 PM

This was one spring day in my backyard. Yes, I bait birds with seed and meal worms. I Sat on the deck with a Tamron 150-600 zoom and shot all afternoon.

#263851 D6 on B&H site

Posted by fotofill on 08 February 2020 - 09:39 PM

FIVE things will enter in to my decision to get one of these.

1. How many FPS will it have? If 15 or more...YES

2. What will be the cost? (Wife has already said OK, but she gets floors refinished.) We haven't worked out the timeline yet.

3. Who will buy one of my D5's. (If you are reading this, you will get the best discount)

4. This camera will really help me capture images, but will I still be working? I turn 72 this year. (I need all the help I can get!) Our company has 12 papers now.

5. I get ankle surgery soon, I may not feel like standing at football games or soccer games or...

Has anyone seen a D6 in person yet? I have a friend who is going to Japan for Olympics, but if the D6 is not "out" by then, the cameras will be loaners to the shooters.

#263726 DynaLite is done

Posted by fotofill on 22 January 2020 - 08:35 PM

For years, DynaLight was the go-to strobe for arena shooting. I had the privilege of hooking up to a client's lights a couple of times. It was a long time ago when I was doing that sort of thing. They were wired and I had to get local engineer to flip a breaker.

They are closed now. I will paste the info.

DynaLite Inc.—a trusted professional lighting brand that has been around for over 50 years—has shut down. In a statement posted to the company’s website, CEO Peter Poremba announced that the company “has filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy and has closed it doors.”

The statement is short and anything-but-sweet.

“It is with sincere regret and a heavy heart that I announce that Dynalite Inc. has filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy and has closed it doors,” writes Poremba from Union, NJ. “For over 50 years, DynaLite has been providing lighting solutions for photographers […] Unfortunately, due to the current decline in the photography market, we have found it difficult to remain competitive.”

Though Poremba blames “the current decline in the photography market,” the reality might lie closer to “the current rise of affordable monolights” from companies like Godox/Flashpoint. The market is more crowded than ever, and DynaLite’s most successful and lucrative niche—arena sports photography—has been shrinking as the low-light capabilities of high-speed sports cameras has steadily improved.

I used to hold the stick. I carried a machete and a walkie talkie. We used a David White transit.

#263541 Santa knew exactly what I wanted

Posted by fotofill on 28 December 2019 - 06:31 PM

I am over needing a micro lens from Nikon. But, Santa left a 1.4 TC for my use. That was nice of him.

There are so many HS basketball tournaments going on. I was told that there is a maximum number of games teams can play, but tournament games do not count. My boss owns eleven papers so I get to shoot a lot of those games. Then I get to process all the games, then post them to a couple of places. Happy New Year everyone.

Basketball is a non-contact sport, right?

#263359 The Phantom Hand blocks a kick

Posted by fotofill on 08 December 2019 - 03:49 PM

It's my practice to shoot punts and kicks because sometimes this happens.

I knew this player sells out for extra point tries.  (I have shot him before. I asked him about it at a previous game. He said, "That is my specialty."

This is a state championship game. I shot the spot where the block could happen. It all came together.

#263314 Flash or no flash?

Posted by fotofill on 03 December 2019 - 05:28 PM

It looks just fine. You gotta us flash on Christmas parades. I just set camera at about 800 ISO and turn the flash down to 1/25th power and go at it. If they all look as good as this, I am happy. (I do not like shooting parades day or night) One of my parades I stand with my back to a gas station and use their lights to fill in the street.

#263177 Fumble at goal line

Posted by fotofill on 19 November 2019 - 12:43 AM

Most HS football fields have two light standards per side of field. Over the years I have learned to bump up the EV and do one stop over, once the game heads into end zone area. Lights at the end of sports fields would be a welcomed by shooter. Probably hated by receivers.

D5, 70-200 at 200, F4, ISO 8000, shutter priority, and +1 stop
