Two weeks ago or was it three hmm getting old I did a wedding of a coworker I had sworn off them but this was a special favor. So first off weddings in Memphis in the summer outside are well not fun it was sunny and 96 degrees heat index north of 100. Over all my Fuji's did a nice job the 18-55 f2.8-4 was superb sharp and contrasty and the EX2 did a nice job so how did it compare to my Nikon's mostly my D600.
This is a Nikon forum so I was conflicted about posting some of this but I am honest and fair so I decided to give it a go.
Battery Life oh yes battery life the Nikon is a clear winner here. I took 3 Fuji batteries to one Nikon battery.
AF speed same thing the Nikon was easier when shooting moving subjects, on static stuff there is no real issue but moving the Nikon is the winner
Flash, yes I found the Nikon was more consistent with flash as far as exposure than my Fuji but the Fuji was not bad its just that Nikon is just so darn good. One note I was not using a Fuji flash so maybe with a Fuji branded flash vs a third party it may be closer.
Weight oh good god in this heat the light weight of the Fuji was a god send.
Controls, Fuji's dials and manual control made switching back and forth much easier and faster forgot how nice my FM3a was when it came to switching around and the Fuji had the same feel.
Here's one that is very subjective and thats image quality. The end product I would say after post processing is the same but when it came to PP I found I spent less time PP the Fuji files to get what I wanted than my Nikon files. Yes I would say IQ is similar its just that the Fuji was faster getting to the end product.
Things that are similar:
Fuji's EVF is excellent I found no issues using it, of coarse Nikons's OVFs are the top of the line so both here do the job well, differently but well.
Rear LCD's again bot have quality rear LCDs.
Overall all speed as far as writing files and responsiveness was similar now I was using an older Fuji XE2 compared to an older Nikon D600 not sure how lets say the XT2 or HT-1 vs Nikon D500 or D750 would be but I assume they would also be close.
Low light performance well this is unfair yet surprising my 16mp Fuji APS was equal to my D600 24mp FX in the low light high ISO performance. Again have no clue how the new 24mp Fuji's compare to the 24mp or 36mp Nikons but overall both are excellent.
Last if I had a choice which to use that is harder to tell I love the size of the Fuji system but Nikon makes the best DSLR on the planet in the D850 I guess if I was rich I would have a full D850 system for some things and a full Xpro2 Fuji system for going light.
Here are a few shots from the weekend. My only complaint besides the heat is the sun was setting and it was smack dab in my face as I was shooting the ceremony and the reception it was getting dark fast despite how it looks the shots of the car and bridge it is a lot darker than it shows. I did use flash for most of the altar shots as fill flash but could do nothing with the blown out background due to the sun it was harsh. The action car shots are at ISO 1600 and the last shot at the reception in the total dark only small rope lights I was at ISO 800 and the flash as primary light.
