I just bought used 800e. What is the setting that keeps the focus point illuminated as long as the release button is depressed? thanks

nope.  It is ON. When i push release button, focus point and metering area light up red. In less than a second, it goes off.

That's the problem with those 'old' cameras Phil... always a pain when the focus point dissappears..at least it stays on in 3D tracking... the Z is better in this respect... visible in all focus modes.
