This "news" as DPReview and others posted is no news as they haven´t given any details as of yet (not even via NPS sources usually good informed). However, I wonder if this D5 will be something like the D3 was or "just another minor upgrade at a high price point".

Cheers

The D5 has a CF version and a XQD version depending on the sales this will make or break the XQD format.

Yeah, this should be interesting; XQD or CF, which will Phil get? Shall we take bets? Oh... wait... didn't Ron say he wanted a D5 as well? Let the betting begin!   B)

The D5 is supposed to be FAST (15 fps was what I was hearing but I see 12.... still FAST!!) and very high ISO.  I don't think it will disappoint.

20 MP at ISO 3 million and 12 FPS this thing seems to be a monster to be honest and if the AF performance is what they say look out(and it is the same AF system in the D500 wow)..

I AM disappointed with 12 fps. I do like that the D5 would work well at dim lighted sports fields.

It does seem that some of the Video speed will require the XQD card I need to read that again will get back.

I went to my LCS today to enquire about an order.  We chatted a good 30 minutes or so....

These guys are very excited about the D500 and the D5.  As of today, they have 20 D5 on Back Order!  They were saying that Nikon is generating a ton of interest while Canon is doing nothing of the sort.  There is no comparison to the interest or orders and neither rep in the store was complimentary to the "other" brand.

Also, picked up a Gary Fong for my flash.  Expensive trip in just to enquire!

Okay Art, when do you pick up your order?   :P

Angela was going to ban me from the LCS, but that is where we are going to get new passport photos.   ;)   Plus, the 14 - 24 cured me of the NAS itch for a wee while.

I remember trying to decide on the 14-24 or the 16-35.... I ended up going 16-35 to save about $800.  I regret it and I don't .... but regret it!   I would have rather had the 14-24 but I was practical.  Love the one I have, just would have loved the 14-24 more!!

I ordered another lens during Boxing Week on special!  Good deal.... but.... BACK ORDERED!!!!

So, the kicker is.... they may not match the price when it comes in.  In that case, they will EAT MY ORDER.  Wait and see.  It was supposed to be in this week.  The staff feel it will be in mid next week.

So, I wait.  I didn't need this lens, I was drawn to it by the DxO reviews.  I got my favorite gift from my close family for X-mas..... C A S H !  So, what the hey... you only live once and I am trying to accumulate as many toys as I can on my journey!

:D

New xqd cards, and sd cards for D5 and D500.

And for Phil, the new XQD has pin protection.

"The XQD format’s unique and robust structure, featuring card thickness and pin protection, and a tough, reinforced outer case is made for reliable use."

Wow the buffer size alone is a sports and birders dream! It seems if the image quality and high ISO is improved the D5 really outclasses the D4s in everyway. It also looks that the D5 has more customizable button.

OK detachable eye piece/screen on the D5 and no on the D4s what is that? Also it claims 700 more shots per battery charge. Slightly larger and heavier but it does have a touch screen there is a lot to like about the D5 and it comes in at the same price as the D4s.

Not bad Nikon really hit a homerun with the D5/D500 or should we say the dynamic duo! :D

Yeah, this should be interesting; XQD or CF, which will Phil get? Shall we take bets? Oh... wait... didn't Ron say he wanted a D5 as well? Let the betting begin!   B)

Dennis, I've been thinking about it, but the more I dwell on it, the more I'm convinced that I don't need it. I continue to be majorly impressed with the results you guys are getting with the D4's, and the D5 will be just as impressive I'm sure, but the fact is, I don't do nearly as much wildlife photography as I did before. I haven't used my 600 lens since early last fall. I have some northern guys coming in the end of this month for some eagle photography so I'll use the 600 then, but that's about it.

Don't know why but the D500 just sings to me but it might be a bit I really want to complete my Oly small kit or Mini Kit! :D

Jim

To you, and many other people.  This camera will also be a hit.  I moved off DX so, I will wait for a D750 to come on the market at a good price.

No rush, I have too many cameras as it is!

Can hardly wait to see your Eagle pics, Ron!!  Good luck.  When was the last time you went to Gatorland?

Our dollar has completely TANKED this year, travel to the USA for now is out of the question.  But, I still remember that trip and would love to go back.  It was so well worth the experience.

Art, my trip to Gatorland with you was my last trip there, although I'll probably go there later this winter, love to photograph the cattle egrets in breeding plumage. I'm going to the Venice rookery later this month with some folks from up North and as I said earlier, some eagle photography.

Makes sense Ron. The only thing I like about the D5 is the 20meg sensor. Hopping the D4 will drop some more, to get a backup.

I'm wondering if Nikon will make a Df 2

Thanks, Dennis.
