My first time every with a 14mm lens(that I remember) and I can see wide is going to be fun!!!
First let me say MF with this lens is very easy the throw is very long around 120 to maybe 140 degrees. Second the distance is from the minimum of .9 feet to infinity which is set to 10 feet or greater. This makes life so easy with landscapes since your at infinity most of the time and with my D605 I am having no issues with focus. The distance scale seems accurate and with such a smooth long throw it is easy to really fine tune. Third the AF assist lamp works OK it is a bit blinky(is that a word) but from my test shots things that should be in focus are in focus and sharp.
Next distortion is a mixed bag with straight lines close up you get a fairly obvious mustache barrel but LR seems to be able to fix it but you lose some wide angle so you end up with closer to 16mm from what I can tell. But in landscape its seems pretty good there is still some distortion but much less. More testing to come.
Overall IQ seem great and since these lens are both under $300 they are a great buy. There does seem to be a small amount of CA but it can be handled in LR and it seems to decrease to almost none at f5.6. But the lens is sharp guys if there is softness its me not the lens.
Expsosure etc, this lens is chipped so it is essentially an Ai-P lens thus I get full exit data, exposure control etc just like it was a G or AF-D lens! From my few test on a rainy cloudy day it seems to interface perfectly with my D605. Again more tests to come.
Build quality one word SOLID!!!!! This is one of the nicest modern lens I have everyfelt as is its brother 85 f1.4 I got. I am now planing on getting the 35 f1.4 and the 24 f1.4 they offer. MF is not an issue and they work with every camera I got and are easy to focus. I am even researching a split screen for my D605 and when I get a Df they will fit right at home with those wonderful aperture rings!
Last here are my test shots they are essentially straight out of LR no distortion control added. LR does do some sharpening on export due to my settings and I did resize.
PS more to come on thise lens and my 85 f1.4!
