There seems to be a fair few pictures on Google showing them in use.

I own one for my 200-400mm lens.

To be honest, I have never packed it fully with all the "stuffings", it is impossible to do so and quickly remove the lens or pack it again.  I find the back just a snug to tight.  Would be nice to be able to insert the camera comfortably in the bag as well on the lens, but I find it just a bit to tight.  Don't like carrying it that way.

For quick trips, I just use the big bottom pad and not the other two.  I think they are there if you travel and want some real protection, otherwise, like I said, way too cumbersome.

For two pad setup.

For three pads, I think you use the last one to warp the top of the lens in tight if traveling or banging the bag around more than you typically would.  If I remember correctly, it wraps around and inside the middle piece.

Yeah BP, but the issue is they don't say what is a good way to configure the pads they include. You can't use the all unfortunately. So right now Im just doin what I think will work. Almost sure I'm not doing it the correct way.

I tend to agree, It's an excellent bag but I'm with you. I don't see carrying it with a body attached either. The 200-400 seems to fit with room to spare, but the 400/ 2.8 not as much room. Thanks for the info for sure
