#255976 My Obsession

Posted by gregc on 23 August 2018 - 01:36 PM

Dennis now that you mention it. Yup!! That is from the scan to pull the image. It was on mat board. I didn't feel like correcting. The original is a 4x5 transparency. It doesn't tilt :)

Also noticed Calvin Klein doesn't really tilt. Could be the bottle's print. I will have to check.

Also thanks

#255804 Good settings for Guitars/Instruments

Posted by gregc on 09 August 2018 - 09:19 PM

I just bought an 8 string Lap Steel guitar and would like to post a couple photos but I always end up with a very generic looking photo. What settings and techniques are generally used for taking photos of guitars with natural wood with transparent sunburst paint jobs? Making objects look 3D and full bodied is something that I can't grasp as of yet.

I know I'm late to the party but I just saw this...

I don't know the shape but I would light it at an diagonal angle to bring up the wood textures a bit.  A large softbox with the  diffuser intact or a shoot thru scrim panel. That should give the fretboard will have high level of detail Also a bounce reflector of some type.. Maybe a foam core panel to bounce like back at the shadow side, but just outside the frame (you can decide how much fill More/Closer.. Less/Farther back). I would think that would be a start, and then tweak from that. I am not sure what type lighting you are going to use, but if you are able to use a larger box or a large shoot thru panel I would go that route. That should also help you keep specular highlights under control because you are using larger softer sources as opposed to smaller hard ones. Although to be honest small sources are great for raising up textures....

#255730 Polaroid Test Print from 4X5 table setup

Posted by gregc on 04 August 2018 - 04:40 PM

Was shot with a Cambo Legend 4X5 RailCam & Calumet 210 Lens @ F/64 With11 Pops from and Ultra 600 in a large PhotoFlex MultiDome SoftBox, along with a couple of white card reflectors. Some post edit

over-sharpening to get the textured grainy look.

ON I always use a dash board sheen product. Seems to work pretty good to bring the luster back. Of course it wears off after a while so I have to redo from time to time.

Greg,

I wouldn't mind seeing what you do and how it turns out.  Peter is amazing at camera restoration, I have seen it first hand.  Follow his advice.

Take pics as you go along, if you have the time or inclination.

You have my attention.

Okay I will see what I can do. I think as long as u r not trying to redo a
major part of the body that it should look fairly good.

#239321 Chicago

Posted by gregc on 26 April 2017 - 10:50 PM

Nice shots, Greg.

I've always been curious about Chicago, and it is on my bucket list.  Alas, the closest that I ever got was last year, when I spent 5 hours in O'Hare Airport.  Unfortunately, I was more interested in resuming my interrupted trip to Indianapolis than I was in sightseeing.  United Airlines has that effect on people!

You have to go and stay downtown. Park your car and walk or take a shuttle unless you want to go outside of downtown Chi... Also Thanks much
