I'm sure you guys dread the "which camera" threads and yeah, this is sort of one but I have more of a specific question than a which one.
I have always been very interested in photography but have never taken the time to shoot enough to really learn. We have a D40 that has lived in the closet for a number of years until I stumbled across it recently and decided I want to go for it. I picked up a used 50mm f1.8 and I'm thinking I'll probably get an all around lens like an 18-200 because I think it works for what I want to use it for but that's for a question down the road. Anyway, as far as my price range is concerned, I think I can do a new D5600 body but notice the D7100 body is only about $50 more at this point. I like the idea of getting as much as I can for the money but want to make sure I'm not missing out on something.
I know there are some layout differences and I know the 7xxx series has the built in auto focus, which probably doesn't matter for me because I don't have lenses that require it. And I'm sure there are some differences I currently don't understand. One of my specific questions is how useful is the movable screen on the 5600? I suspect I'll mostly use it for stills but I may do some video. I wont likely do much in the way of selfie type video but I may do a review here and there for fishing equipment but I can't imagine it being a primary use.
So I guess I have two questions. One is the movable screen and the other is - are there other advantages or disadvantages to either that are significant enough to move in a direction.
