Ok the first one is using the digital zoom so its around 3000mm and the second one is at 8000mm digital zoom and the last one is just optical zoom at 2000mm. Rumors have it the replacement will be a 24-3000mm Optical zoom.

I could zoom to 8000mm with the digital zoom but it was hard to hold it steady even on my tripod using a counter weight underneath and a sandbag on the top but I did get one that was fairly clear  at 8000mm digital zoom.

Shutter speed was 1/360

ISO 200

f6.3

Jim,

Does your P900 have a bulb setting?

I just thought of something!

-----------------------------

Looked it up... NO BULB setting! :(

I thought of a way you could reduce the vibration.

Cover the lens with a conical black piece of paper.  Set the shutter to BULB and open. .... move the paper away and count the exposure time, cover the lens with conical paper.... release shutter.

No Shutter Vibration.

Why conical?  So you can cover the lens without touching it and not have light sneak in.  I may try this on my D800!  With the shutter open, but not bringing in light, you can have a rock steady camera, then count down the exposure.... no shutter vibration which means you get the crispest possible image!
