I'm adding more and more vintage lenses to my Fuji kit - this time a Helios 44M-4 58mm f2 with a M42 mount.....the ones you used to find on the front of a Zenit 35mm SLR.

It is very sharp (in the centre) even wide open with great background separation and swirly bokeh as you hit the corners. Been shooting with it the last two days while I've had Jasper out for his walks....

This one I've really proud of - I pre-focused on the line in the sand that Thomas was using as his launch point and just hit the shutter as he jumped. One shot with some planning and a fair bit of luck...

Very nice. Jasper looks great. The jump is pretty cool too.

Thanks, Dennis.

Thanks

Really enjoying this particular lens, its a bit beaten up so I have another on the way which is meant to be mint. I also found an Asahi Pentax 55mm f1.8 (M42) in a local store which looks fun - just got to sort a deal.

Mate you have hit the nail on the head.

Back in the 80's and 90's we used to buy Helios lenses (only with bodies as it wasn't worth it on their own) for £1 or £2 and sell them for...at max...£5 as frankly they were awful. Same goes for all the other Russian stuff and frankly the majority of M42 glass in general. Now I know I am doing exactly what I'm moaning about but these days these old lenses have become fashionable due to the way mirrorless systems can adapt to their use and the prices have rocketed. A decent used Helios can go for £50 - thats TEN TIMES the value they had back in their day. Some of the odder stuff goes for silly money - we had boxes and boxes of the things long around the back of the shop gathering dust as no one wanted a Zenit or old Praktica but we part exchanged loads to sell newer kit.

Had I known   I could have made my fortune.

Really very convincing pictures - great!
Meanwhile I have two helios. Especially the 58mm is, like yours, very sharp.
