Today was the last day for the Toronto Transit Commissions CLRV vehicle.  It is a 42-year-old streetcar, they retired the fleet, all 196 regular and 52 articulated vehicles. They are replaced by trouble-prone and storied history on late deliver and bad workmanship Bombardier vehicles.

 

TTC was offering free rides from 10-2 today on these models on one small stretch of road in the downtown area.

I took a picture of the streetcar as it was going by and later noticed the woman blankly looking out the window.  Made me wonder what she was thinking.....

 

- thanks for the free ride, suckers?

- dang, its raining?

- wow, where did 42 years go?

 

Anyway, I was intrigued by her facial expression and decided to crop it into a street photography type print. There is an even more haunting face in there, I wish I could have brought that out more!

Amazing lets replace something that works and has an excellent track record with newer more expensive stuff that doesn't work. LOL

 

To be honest I am sure the maintenance on the older ones is also extensive and parts are probably hard to come by.

Bill, Yes, the TTC logo is a cool one, still stands the test of time.

I know, right?!  The new streetcars are a nightmare.  The company making them is a joke.  It has been plagued with issues from the beginning of the contract. Most notably, non-delivery.  They almost had the contract pulled out from under them.

We are also going to a Presto Card payment system.  This hasn't worked from the start either.  I think the TTC has lost half a million dollars on uncollected fairs since inception.  Overall, I think our transit system is a joke and a money pig.  But, try telling that to anyone in Toronto who will listen.  This is such a stupid city.

NYC had to pull all 172 Bombardier made Subway cars last week due to the doors shutting on people or not closing at all.
