"He remains the only civilian to receive a medal of valor from the U.S. Army, for heroism during the Vietnam War—the Bronze Star Medal with “V” device"

#259830 Joe Galloway Interview

For those interested here's a decent article about Joe Galloway, combat photographer who did four tours in Vietnam through Desert Storm, his character was spotlighted in the 2002 movie We Were Soldiers. Joe used a Nikon F SLR throughout his tours in Vietnam. I emailed him once asking about CSM Basil Plumley who served from WW2-Vietnam and he kindly returned a lengthy email.

#259444 Too many full frame fanboys in photography.

Posted by Leaviathan on 03 February 2019 - 02:29 PM

DX/APS-C will continue because there's a large crowd that can't afford FF. Most cameras I see in peoples hands are Nikon D3400's, Canon T3i-T6i or decent Point and Shoots

You can take pro quality photos with a D3200, all that's needed is experience.

5) Pros take really nice pictures and make you think you can too, just like them! ;) So buy the gear and you too will take these killer images .....

That's true, if I buy an old Fender Strat I can play just like SRV!  :D

#259108 Nobska Lighthouse

I really like the horizontal line in the EVF, if you're off level at all, another line shows up in a different color, which shows you which way to tip it to achieve a level shot.

My first outing with the X-T1 with 35 mm F/2 XF R WR Lens . I haven't read much of the manual yet, I just set it on AP mode and started shooting. Nobska Lighthouse, Woods Hole MA

Great shot! D300's obviously get the job done in the right hands.

#258932 Anyone using an HDTV Antenna?

Posted by Leaviathan on 12 January 2019 - 03:07 PM

That is correct, but a huge difference in the format itself. HD antenna is more of a commercial term, but it's no need to get your tights in a bunch over. They call it what they call it, your dismay will not change that. When SHOPPING for an antenna to view modern television signals you must Google HD Antenna whether you like it or not :D

#258926 January challenge is old and new

Posted by Leaviathan on 12 January 2019 - 01:44 PM

Old and new digital cameras in my small collection. The focus issues show me how sensitive f1.8 and f2.0 are at close distances using both cameras. The photo of the D3300 was taken with the X-T1, and the photo of the X-T1 was taken with the D3300. I'll have to choose a different point of focus next time, or close down the aperture a little.

I finally own a $1200+ camera! And the camera and lens came to $804 with sales tax.

I went with a used Fuji X-T1 in excellent + condition along with a fast 35mm lens. it'll be fun to use and I'm looking forward to it's arrival, it gets some great reviews. I can now sit back and see what Nikon comes up with for a DX mirrorless, but odds are I'll have to wait a few years for the price to drop like this Fuji.
